    Useless hdd Mod, Complaint Dept

Reading over at Xbox-Scene I saw a new mod that on the surface does what gamers have looking to do since the 360 launched.  Now let me get this out of the way, I don't support hardware mods, I do love custom cases and things of that nature.  So the new mod done by the Specialist allows you to connect your own hard drive to your 360.  Now you might be thinking this is great, now I can have all arcade games, demos, and movies I want, right?  Well not exactly, and this is where the stupidity begins, but by no means where it ends.

First of all yes, you can connect your own hard drive, but you can't connect a hard drive larger than 20 gigs.  Sure you probably save some money, but what about time?  If you don't at all value your time then I guess you could do this, I'd much rather spend the extra money for the hard drive all hooked and looking good.  Now this is the part that really confuses me, they post a Q&A with the Specialist.  Check this out:

    Q. I have a x360 core version and want to use this hack to buy a cheap HDD. But how do i connect it?
    A. MS uses a specific connector. While it doesn't look too complicated to create your own, I haven't tried this myself, but I'm sure there are some creative hardware minded souls out there that should be able to think of something

Wait a second here, so he doesn't even know how to create a connector for the hard drive?  Does that mean he used his existing official Xbox 360 hard drive to find this out?  I can only assume so, that would be the way to get the correct connector.  Wow, so I can pay $100 for a 20gig hard drive so I can install my own 20gig hard drive?  That's brilliant.  I guess this does show potential for the future, but with the rate that 360 get updates I wouldn't risk doing anything fishy.

    Gamertag Radio Episode 84

I hope to make this a regular thing where I can announce new episodes of Gamertag Radio.  So today episode 84 was released, this is actually the first show that I take part in, so if you've enjoyed reading my blog you should definitely give this episode a listen.  Of course if you don't enjoy my blog then first off why the hell are you reading this, and secondly Godfree and Nano are also on the show so you don't have to listen to just me.

Highlights of the show include the following:
    • Interview: Comand and Conquer 3
    • Interview: NBA Street Home Court
    • Custom Soundtrack: "Queen" by Soul Supreme (feat. PETE ROCK, A.G. & T-MAX)

A Visit with 3 Red Lights

So last night I was playing Gears of War on Live, for my first time, and something strange happened.  There was a big power surge and all the lights blinked.  When I looked down at my Xbox 360 I saw 3 red lights blinking.  I just froze, I didn't even know how to react.  I slowly got up and shut the console off.  I sat there momentarily in disbelief, wondering if my 360 was actually broken or if the power surge caused something strange to happen.  Luckily I turned on my 360 and everything was fine, that was a close one.

    Changes for the better

You may have noticed that over the last 2 months I've been posting a lot less.  You also may have noticed that I switched from constantly updating with news to more just commenting on things that were going on.  Well the reason for that was that not too many people were visiting my blog, so I figured why try to bring the important Xbox news to one place quickly if people aren't reading it before they've read it elsewhere.  I do appreciate all the great comments and compliments I've gotten over the last year or so, and I thank those of you who have regularly visited and read what I have to.  Sadly, it seems as though things are really changing, but that doesn't mean I'm gone.

Yesterday one of my favorite community sites and podcasts asked me to join them and become part of their team.  Which podcast/website you ask?  Well if you've read my blog for a while you know there's one that I always promote and I'm happy to announce I'm now part of the Gamertag Radio team.  Now I wasn't brought on to actually co-host the show, rather I'll mainly be contributing to their website with news from the world of Xbox.  I'm very excited because this gives me a chance to bring news to gamers before it hits every site in the world, and it gives me a platform to really do it.  I hope to add to all the great things that GTR does.   So if you're looking a place to find recent relevant Xbox news, look no further than Gamertagradio.com.  Since I know I'm working with people who are motivated and care about the community I'll be even more motivated then I was when I was posted here 3 times a day to bring the news from around the web to gamers.  I also know that other members of the team are motivated to make a real effort to bring the news, so GamertagRadio.com will likely become the one stop shop for Xbox news.  So if you thought I was blogging less before, then it's only gonna get worse.  In addition I may be working on another project related to all that, and if that all pans out then this blog might become completely obsolete.

Now this doesn't mean you won't still see me on multiple community sites and forums.  I'll still be in all my regular places on the web just as much (if not more), just now I'll have something to do with that info I find.  On a side note I think it's funny that I'm technically "staff" for both Gamertag Radio and Gamertagpics, there something about that word gamertag...(and any GTPers reading this don't think I'll be around there any less.  My favorite 3 forums are the ones on Xbox.com, Gamertagpics.com, and Gamertagradio.com.  All it means is when I do visit Gamertag Radio's forums I'll be posting news.)

Again I really thank those of you who have read my blog with any regularity, and give mad love to those who subscribe to the rss feed.  I'm still all about some Xbox 360, and don't pronounce this blog dead yet by any means, because you never know.  I do enjoy writing, and this could just become a great place to post editorials.  I just wanted to kind of give the regular readers a heads up.

    I return...

I feel as thought I haven't written anything in a while and I guess I just have an itch that needs scratching. Where have I been? Well there were the holidays, then a lot of drinking ( and yet I didn't leave a drunken voicemail for GTR), as well as the fact that I've been sick for like a week now. Other than that everything's ok.

The reason I'm posting are the two big rumors out today, can you guess what they are? Well even if you can't guess I'm sure that by now you've read about them. Of course I'm talking about the new version of the Xbox 360 with 120gig hdd and HDMI output, as well as the news that there was at one point a Nintendo DS version of Halo in the works. So much goodness, I don't even know where to start.

Actually I know exactly where to start, the new Xbox 360. If you read my blog with any type of regularity you know I've been talking about the new version of the 360 for a while now. I've never classified it as a rumor, plain and simple whether the new picture circling the net is real or not there will be a new version of the 360. If I put all fanboyish thinking aside this isn't exactly a good thing, but kind of follows suit with last gen as far as Sony is concerned. Afterall they did put out the PS2 Slim and the PSX (which I think only came out in Japan because I never saw one and actually wanted one). Just the idea of having to, yes I said I have to, buy a new Xbox 360 to play current gen games when the one I have works fine rubs me the wrong way. I know I don't have to buy it, but any respectable gamer will buy it, plus I'd really like to see that fully digital HDMI output. I don't think I'd care as much if the newer version just had a larger hdd, then I could likely just buy hard drive, but smaller/cooler gpu and hdmi just sound like so much fun. I'd love to hear some comment from MS (that means you Gamerscoreblog), but while they do a good job at shooting down price drop rumors the real juicy ones get completely ignored.

Onto Halo DS, or should I say what many of us (guys) would classify as a wet dream come true. I know I can't leave out the ladies, I'm sure many of you would eargerly sell your soul as quickly as I would to have a Halo game for you DS (Lite). There is a part of me that just sees this rumor as someone mindlessly running off at the mouth. Do first party developers ever put the software out on a competitors hardware? Not that I can remember, but the fact that there is no handheld from MS makes the rumor that much more believable. The one thing that didn't excite me about this rumor is that it supposedly played like Metroid Prime. Don't get wrong, I loved me some Metroid, but I found the controls to just be uncomfotable. Sure I could easily control Samus and all, but I couldn't play for any extended period of time without my hand cramping up into some knarled claw. Bottom line, while the rumor of their once being a Halo DS game is interesting, it's pretty pointless. The project, if it ever existed, was scrapped and therefore none of us will ever play it or see it so at the end of the day I could care less.

I hope you enjoyed the post, even though it's more of a commentary than any kind of real news. I will be blogging more, I swear.
